Setting Heating or Cooling Setpoints

1 min read

Setpoint #

The temperature point at which a thermostat has been set.

How do setpoints work? #

Setpoints work relative to the room temperature. The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system works to bring the room temperature to the set point temperature.

For example, if your room temperature is 78°F, and the setpoint is 76°F, then the heating and cooling equipment will work to cool the building to that setpoint.

Depending on the operation mode, the TrustHab thermostats have one setpoint or two: a heating setpoint, and a cooling setpoint.

  • For a heating set point, the HVAC system will heat the room to the setpoint temperature and try to maintain that temperature.
  • For a cooling set point, the HVAC system will cool the room to the setpoint temperature and try to maintain that temperature.
  • If the room temperature is within the two set points, or within the comfort band, the HVAC system will not heat or cool the space (although it may continue to provide ventilation to your room.)

Cooling or Heating Mode #

To setting cooling or heating setpoints:

  1. Go to thermostat screen.
  2. Select “Heating” or “Cooling” mode. To change the Heat Setpoint you must be in Heating mode, to change the Cool Setpoint you must be in the Cooling mode
  3. Changes Setpoint by sliding finger along the blue or orange slider.
  4. As you operate the “slider” the large-font temperature value shown in the top-right of the Thermostat changes.
  5. Once you remove your finger from the screen, the new Setpoint is displayed in the small circle found on the slider.
  6. The large-font temperature value changes back to the Current/ Ambient Temperature Value.

Auto Mode #

To setting cooling or heating setpoints in Auto Mode:

  1. Go to thermostat screen.
  2. Select “Auto” mode. In Auto-Mode two Setpoints define a Setpoint Range
  3. Change the both Setpoints (MIN and MAX,) one at a time, by sliding finger along the blue-orange slider.
  4. While you operate the “slider” the large-font temperature value in the top-right of the Thermostat changes.
  5. Once you remove your finger from the screen, the new Setpoint is displayed in the small circle found on the slider.
  6. A dialog box opens, confirming that the Setpoint Range has been submitted.
  7. Press OK to close the dialog box

Note that you cannot lower the cooling setpoint below the heating setpoint. The thermostat will “push” the heating setpoint lower if you try to lower the cooling setpoint below the heating setpoint. It maintains a 3-degree separation between the heating and cooling setpoint.

The same is true for raising the heating setpoint above the cooling setpoint. Again, the thermostat will “push” the cooling setpoint up to maintain the 3-degree separation.
