Improve building efficiency without sacrificing resident comfort

The evolution of ‘smart buildings’ over the recent years has helped optimize the daily workflows, practices and operations of properties through the collection and analyzation of actionable data – ‘actionable’ being the key word here. After all, it’s not just insight to the data, it’s what is done with the data that matters most.

So, how smart is your building? Do you already have a cloud-based reporting software installed that allows you to view the efficiency and health of the expensive equipment installed throughout your property? And if not, what are you currently doing to protect your assets and proactively mitigate the risk of any equipment failures/breakdowns?

As most property and maintenance teams already know, HVAC malfunctions can be one of the most costly maintenance-related issues to rectify – especially when the problem has existed, undetected, for an extended period of time.  That’s why it’s vital for owners and operators to have an effective strategy in place that allows them to continuously monitor the efficiency of their HVACs in real-time, and be notified the minute that a potentially risky condition is detected.

In addition to monitoring the status and run time of equipment, it’s also beneficial for teams to be able to compare that key data with other units in the building. This helps to accurately identify outliers and determine whether adjustments need to be made to optimize unit efficiency or reduce any wasted energy consumption.

To give you an example; just last month, our Solution captured the run time data of an HVAC unit between the hours of 12pm and 8pm. On this particular day, the external temperature was 91 degrees. When the thermostat was set anywhere between 72 degrees and 76 degrees, there was minimal difference in run time percentage – overall run time varied between 21% – 25%. However, when the temperature set point was reduced a mere 1 degree from 72 down to 71 degrees, HVAC usage increased by almost 50%. A drastic difference from such a minor change in temperature.

Now imagine that your property likely has hundreds of HVACs running at an unnecessarily excessive rate – mainly because both residents and onsite staff are unaware that a mere 1 degree can make such a significant difference, but also because many properties are not equipped with the tools that would bring this to their attention.

An effective Solution, like TrustHab, not only empowers property staff to reduce costs associated with utilities – it also allows them to improve the efficiency of their HVACs to ensure they aren’t strained or overworked, helping to avoid maintenance issues and prolong the life of units.

We don’t just gather intelligent data; we provide recommendations on how properties can use it to their advantage. Reach out to us today to learn how we can help you improve your building’s IQ.
